AVERAGE COSTS IN THIS AREA

TransportationIn the Philippines, travel costs can vary, but generally offer great value. Getting from island to island can be expensive if you book flights last minute, but booking internal flights at least one month in advance can save you a considerable amount of money! Local transport options like jeepneys and tricycles are affordable and provide a budget-friendly way to explore.

Accommodation– Accommodation options cater to various budgets. When travelling in the Philippines, my partner and I always opted for double rooms with a private bathroom and air conditioning. This was affordable, but the standard of the accommodation wasn’t always the best. Spending a little bit extra if you can will mean you have a more comfortable stay.

Food– Street food in the Philippines is a steal, with meals averaging £1.50-£4. Dining at mid-range restaurants usually costs between £7-£14 per person.

Suggested Daily Budget– With careful planning, you can comfortably experience the beauty of the Philippines without breaking the bank. Your daily budget will vary depending on your travel style. For budget travellers, aiming for around £30 per day can cover accommodation in budget guesthouses, local transportation, street food and some activities. Mid-range travellers might budget between £50-£80 per day, allowing for more comfortable accommodation, dining at mid-range restaurants and additional activities.

Keep in mind that these are general guidelines based on my own experiences and actual expenses may vary based on personal preferences and specific locations you visit.

tips for first visit

1.  Pack light and right: the Philippines is tropical, so pack lightweight, breathable clothing. Also, I recommend taking a backpack rather than a suitcase, thank me later!

2. Island Hopping: Don’t limit yourself to one destination! There are over 7,000 different islands in the Philippines. Explore multiple places to truly experience the diversity of landscapes the Philippines has to offer.

3. Be mindful of seasons: The Philippines has a distinct wet and dry season. Wet season is from June – November, dry season is from December – May. Plan your visit accordingly.
