Singapore
singapore- WHAT TO EXPECT
Singapore is a vibrant and diverse country located in Southeast Asia. It is often considered to be one of the most developed countries in the world and it’s known for its rich cultural heritage, fantastic infrastructure and good quality of life. There are plenty of different activities to enjoy in Singapore, such as natural parks and gardens, cultural heritage sites and shopping. Although it is an expensive place to visit, there are also some activities you can enjoy for free!
AVERAGE COSTS IN THIS AREA
Transportation– The public transport system in Singapore is amazing, luckily! You can ride the metro or the public buses at low costs, but taxis and private transfers come at a hefty price. I would recommend using the trains as there are many lines through the city that stop at convenient places for sightseeing. Another great thing about the trains in Singapore is that you can pay by simply tapping your card on the turnstile, it’s super quick, easy and cheap!
Accommodation– Singapore is renowned for being expensive, and this is definitely true when it comes to booking accommodation. 4 nights in a standard hotel in Singapore cost £252 for Brett and I. As a budget traveller this is not what you want to hear! In order to make our Singapore trip more affordable, we booked the cheapest hotel we could find, chose our paid attractions carefully, avoided taxis and private transfers and only used public buses and trains. I would suggest going on Booking.com and filtering your options to ‘lowest price first’, this will show you the cheapest available hotels for your preferences.
Food– Eating out can be very expensive in Singapore (surprise, surprise!), so I recommend trying to eat at hawker stalls whenever possible. Meals at hawker stalls will set you back around £5-£10 depending on where you are and what you choose. Fast food like McDonald’s or KFC is another option that is cheaper than eating at a restaurant!
Suggested Daily Budget– Expect to pay £30 per night for accommodation, £20-£25 for food each day, £5-£10 for transport and £30 on average for activities. My suggested daily budget is approximately £95 per person. Of course, this will vary day by day as you will likely choose expensive activities on one day and cheaper ones on another, but hopefully this gives you an idea for your budget!
tips for first visit
1. Book a hotel in advance to get the best deal.
2. Use your bank card to tap through the turnstile gates when using trains.
3. Eat at hawker stalls to save money.
